Virtual Interdisciplinary Arts Exhibition (VIAE)
Submissions deadline: September 14, 2021
The VIAE is a virtual curated space showcasing peer-reviewed statement works of art that interpret three primary themes, Adapt. Hope. Grow., in relation to BTS’s messages and philosophy. Cumulatively, the exhibition will explore how creativity can be used to connect, inform, inspire and uplift people through the use of creative expression. The RCon VIAE 2021 event is one of the many offerings of Rhizome Connect Virtual Conference & Convention held this year and, therefore, is not an isolated event, but part of the overall RCon 2021 experience.
The Artist Brief in a Nutshell
The Artist Brief for Rhizome Connect VIAE draws on the three main themes of RCon 2021: Adapt. Hope. Grow.
Under these themes, we encourage artists to think about the themes in relation to their own personal lives, their social and relational environment, and how BTS has impacted and influenced them.
Using this flow of thought, we encourage concept building to create a concept using the Artist’s own experiences, thoughts, emotions, questions, references, symbolism, etc., to create an art piece that tells the Artist’s own unique story.
We welcome different creative styles, i.e., example-realism, abstract-ism, cubism, and so on.
We encourage artists to select a style they are most comfortable with exploring and displaying.
However, if you feel like challenging yourself with a style you have never tried before, or would, in general, like to try something new – GO FOR IT!
You can refer to the full Artist Brief PDF for more complete information regarding all you need when submitting your proposal to the VIAE on or before the submission portals close on September 14, 2021!
What is RCon 2021 VIAE about?
It is a safe space to connect artists within the global ARMY network, allowing diverse and multi-cultural creative individuals to express their own unique stories, experiences and messages with the wider global fandom and audience.
While we intend the Artist Brief to be challenging to a certain degree, we also hope that the process will encourage a time of self-reflection and an opportunity to “speak yourself” through a creative medium.
For whom is the RCon21 Virtual Interdisciplinary Arts Exhibition [VIAE] ?
Artists of all skill-levels are welcomed and encouraged to submit their creative proposals! You DO NOT have to be a professional artist to give it a go! Our Co-Art Directors & Curators are happy and ready to assist and support you in your creative journey with RCon21.
You DO NOT have to speak English only to submit your proposal – but need only be able to communicate your idea in as clear and coherent a manner as possible using the English language. The VIAE is open to Artists from all over the globe!
What if I’m not sure if my work is good enough for VIAE ?
It’s normal to have doubts about yourself, but we hope we can help you overcome them one by one. If you have any doubts or you have questions you’d like us to help clarify, the first step is reaching out to us. For us, the most important part of this venture is that you, the Artist, have fun and enjoy the process!
While we expect this to be a challenging experience to a certain degree, we also hope that the process will encourage a time of self-reflection and an opportunity to “speak yourself” through a creative medium.
Our team is ready and more than happy to provide you with whatever support, assistance and/or guidance you may need, so please do not hesitate to send our Art Directors an email at email@example.com.
